Helen Cox is dance artist and choreographer based in London. She approaches choreography by deconstructing traditional technique and re-inventing new patterns of the body – creating cyclical movements, spirals, falling and catching through space. Her solo work de/construct was presented at The Place, Chisenhale Dance and Michaelis Theatres’ Footprint Dance Festival. Her recent work double pendulum was performed at Resolution festival at The Place in January and toured in the Spring 2017 with performances at the Wandsworth Fringe Festival, The Bunker Theatre, AGITART Dance Festival (Spain) and in collaboration with visual artist Inês Neto dos Santos at arebyte_Gallery. Helen is supported by Studio Wayne McGregor through the FreeSpace Lates programme.
As a dancer Helen has performed work by James Cousins, Darren Ellis, Helena Franzen, Crystal Pite, Tim Rushton and Hofesh Shechter. Current and previous teaching roles include the Royal Ballet School; Trinity Laban; Royal Opera House; Rambert School of Dance; New English Ballet Theatre, and Central School of Ballet. Helen’s formative training took place at School of Alberta Ballet (Cecchetti ballet training under Murray & Nancy Kilgour), School of Toronto Dance Theatre and she holds an MA from London Contemporary Dance School (EDge Company). Helen is currently a mentee with the Prince’s Trust Enterprise Program, and founder of both Children’s Contemporary Dance and [openclass].
